Finally some good news arrives! In California, a law has been approved that prohibits the sale of animals from farms. People will only be able to purchase animals that come from shelters, kennels, catteries or veterinary clinics.
The law will come into force from January 2019 and was approved by the Democratic governor Jenny Brown. He is against the so-called “puppy mills”, literally “puppy factories”. In fact, unfortunately, these associations often hide the exploitation and mistreatment of animals.
The law provides for a fine of 500 dollars for anyone who does not comply with it.
Many animal rights associations welcomed this news with benevolence. Among these we remember: the Humane Society,ASPCA (American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) or the Social Compassion in Legislation. Some associations however, such as the american kennel club they think that the law would only limit the freedom to look after purebred dogs and cats.
What is the objective of this Law? Certainly to defeat the phenomenon of stray dogs. Unfortunately, in America as well as in other parts of the world, many animals that do not find adoption within a period of time are euthanized. In fact, it is estimated that approximately 1,5 million pets are killed in the United States every year.
We can only hope that this law can be the solution and the turning point to put an end to the euthanasia of dogs and cats.
