Summer is coming and, like every year, Sardinia is one of the favorite destinations for many Italians. Crystal clear sea, beaches, sun, but not only... in fact the island also has many surprises in its hinterland: pastures, canyons and towns with an authentic flavor to visit in the company of your four-legged friends.
And it is precisely to adapt to always growing demand for pet-friendly reception which, in 2018, can be counted 35 beaches able to welcome dogs. This data is the result of the adaptation to the Regional Regulation which obliges all Municipalities to dedicate at least a stretch of coast to dogs. Therefore, it is a good idea to find out before leaving because dogs cannot be brought, not even with a leash or muzzle, to seaside areas that are not equipped to welcome them; under penalty of a fine of up to €1.000.
Among the beaches most appreciated by users are the Porto Pino beach in Sant'Anna Arresi, la Tiliguerta Dog Beach a Costa Rei, I bring Fido at the Porto Quadro beach.
For a unique experience that is certainly off the beaten track, we recommend a trip to the Gorropu Canyon , a true landscape and geological monument to visit on foot or by off-road vehicle. Dogs are allowed inside the park.
For a trip between nature and history we recommend the Gennargentu Park. Archeology lovers will not remain indifferent to the Stonehenge of the Mediterranean, or the area of Pranu Muttedu, the imposing pre-Nuragic site located in the green countryside of Gerrei. Here there are 7.000 stone towers; to admire the nuraghi most famous in Sardinia we advise you to move 50 km further north-east to reach barumini where is the Su Nuraxi site proclaimed a World Heritage Site.
Your dog will thank you, these places of cultural interest are immersed in uncontaminated nature, far from mass tourism.
