Bad news comes from the world of abandonment: 117 thousand dogs adopted during the pandemic they were returned to the kennel.
A heavy number that once again points the finger at the responsibility of humans who consider a dog as "a game or a diversion to be returned once you no longer want it".
According to a recent investigation, the reasons behind the font can be attributed to two causes:
- once the lockdown is over the animal becomes difficult to manage (63% of cases);
- the animal causes annoying material damage (37%).
During the lockdown, established in conjunction with the Covid-19 pandemic, There has been a real boom in adoptions, especially in the North West.
The reasons for this action, according to recent surveys, are not always noble. In fact, 38% of new pet owners (dogs and cats) confirmed that they had gotten an animal to "ease the lockdown", while 5,7% even said they had done so just to "get around mobility restrictions imposed by the Government".
In short, a story we didn't want to tell.
